In 2011, The Nino Sanciolo Gift to Art was awarded to the project WANTED – Presi per il verso giusto. The project, launched by the Palermo based Association Extroart aims to recover the memory and recognition of stolen works of art, to solicit research and tackle illegal trade of art works.
As part of project Wanted, the Nino Sanciolo Gift has funded the return to Sicily of two artworks belonging to the artistic patrimony of Italy. The works, a 17th Century painting of a Madonna Orante by an unknown Sicilian artist and a decorated clay lantern from the Roman period from Basilisco – Eolian Islands, were located in Australia in 2008 following a WANTED campaign and since then held in trust by the Italian Consulate General – Sydney.

The works will be presented to the relevant authorities in a ceremony to be held in Sicily on the 12th of November 2011. Following the hand-over, the painting of the Madonna will be returned to Santa Ninfa (Trapani) while the Clay Lamp will be donated to the Archaeological Museum of Lipari.
